Biography
Nor joined the Durham University Business School in 2015. Her career as a university lecturer goes back in the year 2000, where she had taught as an Accounting Lecturer at a public university in Malaysia. Prior to Durham University, Nor had worked as a Lecturer in Accounting at the Norwich Business School, University of East Anglia from 2011-2015. She had also taught at INTO UEA Norwich and was one of the pioneers that contributed towards the development of the accounting course and programme there. Prior to the academic career, Nor was an auditor in a public accountancy firm in Malaysia where she had gained invaluable experience and insights of clients’ various business models which includes the constructions, holidays and clubs, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, poultry feed and fertilisers companies.
Her work experience in the UK and Malaysia higher education has provided Nor with the opportunity to work with students from diverse backgrounds. She enjoys being around students and has always been committed to providing high quality education experience. Her commitment in delivering a high-quality education is evidenced from the outstanding module evaluation feedback consistently received from her students. As a recognition to her commitment, Nor had been awarded the Dean’s Teaching Excellence Award from Durham University Business School in 2019. Nor also has a keen interest in instructional design and curriculum development. In 2015, she had designed the Research Methods and Methodology in Accounting module and introduced it for the first time on the MSc Accounting programme. This has been a very successful module and is well received by students.
Nor earned her PhD from the University of East Anglia in 2012. Her study was based on a grounded theory approach as a method to surface issues and perspectives from the fieldwork. The study further explored the Strategic Oversight Gap of the Enterprise Governance Framework introduced by the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) in 2004. Nor enjoys doing qualitative studies. Her research interests are on environmental management accounting, sustainability management, performance management, and other areas of management accounting research particularly from the social and organizational perspectives. She is also actively conducting research on accounting education mainly on co creation in curriculum development and instructional design. She welcomes collaborations on these areas.
Internationally, she had been invited to be a guest lecturer and conducted several workshops on qualitative research methodology, grounded theory approach, philosophy dimensions in several universities in Malaysia. Nor had presented at several management accounting research and higher education conferences.
Mini Biography
Nor is an Associate Professor in Accounting at Durham University and a Programme Director of the MSc Accounting. She is a Module Leader of Financial Planning and Control on the MSc Accounting programme. She is currently supervising Dissertations at the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
