Biography
Mary Nanyondo (PhD) is an Assistant Professor in Accounting at Durham University Business School, Durham University, UK. She earned her PhD from Bournemouth University, UK. She has an MSc in accounting and finance and holds a first-class accounting and finance degree. Prior to joining Durham, she worked at Nottingham Business School, Nottingham Trent University and the University of East London, both in the UK. Her teaching is multi-disciplinary, covers accounting related modules delivered at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Her areas of research include SME finance, sustainability, Environmental management practices (EMPs), corporate governance and corporate social responsibility, focusing on institutional frameworks in emerging and developing economies.
Mary has received an outstanding teaching excellence award “you’re brilliant” from student union of Bournemouth University 2015/16. At the University of East London, Mary’s modules were documented with the highest student satisfaction 2017 NSS scores. At Nottingham Business School, Nottingham Trent University recent peer review observation indicated excellent teaching practice 2019. Internationally, at Makerere University Business School, Mary received the Principal appreciation letter for exceptional teaching practices that enhanced the student experience.
In terms of impact and relating to industry, Mary has a network of SMEs in Uganda and currently collaborating with Makerere University Business School and Uganda Investment Authority to put together the SME Entrepreneurship Summit and eventually launching the SME Business Barometer.
