Prior to becoming a university academic, Jonquil worked as a professional marketer. Most recently this was as a Senior Global Marketing Manager for the professional services firm KPMG International, but she has also worked in a variety of marketing roles in both the public and private sector within the UK. She holds both professional and academic qualifications in Marketing, and is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM).
Before embarking on her career in marketing, Jonquil spent a number of years as an English Language Teacher and Programme Manager - working in both in-company training departments and higher education institutions in China, Russia and Greece.
Jonquil has been Course Director for the BA / M Marketing programmes since joining Durham University in 2011. She also teaches the Year 1 module - ‘Marketing Principles’ as well as supervising Strategic Business Projects at Masters’ and MBA levels. She is the Study Abroad Academic Co-ordinator and Business Placement tutor for undergraduate programmes in the Business School.
Her research interests are focused on the role of marketing in Higher Education (principally around decision-making and communication) as well as the scholarship of learning and teaching. Before joining Durham, Jonquil was Course Director for the BA Business Studies programme at Exeter University.
