Biography

Damian Damianov is a Professor of Finance at Durham University Business School.

His areas of expertise include asset pricing, real estate and household finance.

His current research in real estate and household finance examines the interplay between mortgage contracts, house prices, and household behavior over the life cycle. He explores how public policy can help households get onto the property ladder and assist them in managing their lifetime wealth. He has consulted government and industry on housing affordability initiatives and studied their impact on households, markets and the economy.

His work on asset pricing focuses on financial market phenomena such as 'bubbles' and 'crashes.' He has developed theories and empirical tests about the channels through which bubbles originate and  collapse, and has applied these methods to real estate, stock, and cryptocurrency markets. His broader research agenda aims to understand the role of fundamentals, expectations, and behavioural aspects of investing in the formation of boom-and-bust cycles.

He earned his PhD from the University of Heidelberg (Germany) in 2006. Prior to joining Durham University in 2013, he held academic positions in the United States.
