Biography

Angela is passionate about teaching and regularly explores new and interesting ways to engage students with digital technologies. She has developed digital escape rooms, used augmented reality and created interactive mobile apps to encourage student participation in learning. Her current research and teaching specialisms focus on digital marketing where she is particularly interested in mobile apps and mobile marketing.

Prior to working in the Business School, Angela worked at Leeds Beckett University where she championed the idea, and then wrote the UK’s first Sport Marketing and Public Relations degree programme. This course has proved to be extremely popular and is well recognised for its excellence and quality both in British Higher Education and Internationally.

Angela is a member of the Academy of Marketing, Chartered Institute of Marketing, Academy of Marketing Science, European Association for Sport Management, and a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. She has served as the co-chair for the Academy of Marketing, Sport Marketing SIG, and has been a reviewer for the Academy of Marketing and the World Academy of Marketing Sciences annual conferences.

Angela has provided consultancy services to a range of high-profile sports organisations and is keen to foster links with organisations that will help provide opportunities for her students to pass on their expertise in this dynamic field. She was responsible for the National Pilot with the Rugby Football League were her students provided marketing support to 18 RFL clubs. Her students have also provided support for a host of organisations including: Leeds Carnegie, Sky Bet, Manchester United, Yorkshire County Cricket Club, The Commonwealth Games in India, and the World Cross Country Championships in Ethiopia.

Angela's International Consultancy has involved work with the British Council, and Assuit and Helwan University in Egypt, where she helped to create an undergraduate degree in Sport Marketing and a centre for CPD in Sport Management. She has also delivered training in marketing and digital marketing on behalf of the Josoor Institute in Qatar. This formed part of a Major Event Management Diploma that was designed to create capacity in marketing for the 2022 Football World Cup.
