Accommodation

Room Types

Our College accommodation contains a total of 492 student bedrooms and 4 self contained flats for staff or visiting fellows. Most of the flats have 7/8 bedroom but there are a few smaller containing 5/6 bedrooms (mainly on the ground floor). All of the beds at John Snow are 3/4 size beds (half way between a single and a double bed).

Undergraduates,. Postgraduates and Returning Students

Our ensuite rooms are located in cluster flats (of between 5 and 8 bedrooms) in one of our six large accommodation blocks.  Each flat has a large shared kitchen, dining space and small sitting area.

In each Townhouse there are 4 floors, 12 bedrooms and six bathrooms (each of which is dedicated for two named students to share). The large ground floor area includes a kitchen and dining space, and a comfortable living area.

We accommodate 'returners' (2nd, 3rd and final year undergraduate students) in College each year. In 2024-25, we will have 76 returning students on-site in college accommodation.  We welcome returners back into College to provide a balanced residential College community.

Allocation

Bedrooms are allocated based on the information provided in the accommodation application form. This form will be sent to applicants with their confirmation letter in August.

We offer both en-suite and shared bathrooms.

Kitchen cleans take place fortnightly, the dates are notified to students in advance for the term.

The service includes: wiping down kitchen hard surfaces, the exterior of white goods, vacuuming and mopping floors.

It does not include: removing rubbish, washing dishes, cleaning ovens, hobs or microwaves  - these are the responsibility of the residents.

If housekeeping staff find a particularly dirty/untidy kitchen, they can allow the students 10 minutes to clear surfaces so that cleaning can take place, alternatively, if housekeeping staff are not able to carry out their duties due to extremely cluttered areas, this would be brought to the attention of the College accommodation officer and evidenced with photographs.

To note: The College is a non-smoking environment.

John Snow College have four wheelchair accessible en-suite bedrooms for those students who require this type of accommodation.  All accessible study bedrooms are located on the ground floor. The Mount Oswald site (which includes The Hub and the Heart buildings) are purpose built for accessibility, each have a lift and there are blue badge car parking spaces. If you have and special medical requirements, please let us know so we can do our best to accommodate your specific needs.

The tight-knit community of Snow forms the basis for such a wholesome and welcoming community, and there are so many exciting ways to get involved. There is something for everyone. I've been able to meet so many new and wonderful people and grow as a person both academically and professionally, all while enjoying university life. College life has been the linchpin and best part of my university experience!
