Undergraduate Scholarships

Applications for Hatfield Scholarships need to be submitted by Sunday 2nd June, and you need to arrange for a reference to be submitted by Thursday 6th June.

Thanks to the generosity of alumni and friends of Hatfield College, the Hatfield Trust awards a range of undergraduate and postgraduate scholarships to support students from lower-income households to come to Hatfield each year. students whose household income is less than £47200 per year are eligible to apply for a College scholarship. It is a condition of the scholarships that Durham is your firm offer. Please read below for information on undergraduate scholarships available including brief eligibility criteria and application timelines. For entry in 2024, we are offering four scholarships:

Chadwick Scholarship

In memory of Hatfield alumnus Michael Chadwick and thanks to the generosity of his parents, the Chadwick Scholarship is designed to support an undergraduate student of exceptional potential and genuine financial need.

One scholarship, providing £4,000 per academic year, is available to award to an applicant holding an offer of a place at Durham, who has been allocated to Hatfield College, and who is commencing their studies in autumn 2024. Preference may be given to a student intending to study Engineering.

Gant Scholarship

Hatfield College is also delighted to announce the Gant Scholarship, which is designed too to support an undergraduate student of exceptional potential and genuine financial need.

One scholarship, providing £4,000 per academic year, is available to award to an applicant holding an offer of a place at Durham, who has been allocated to Hatfield College, and who is commencing their studies in autumn 2024. Preference may be given to student intending to study Geography.

John Oaks Memorial Fund

Hatfield College is delighted to announce the John Oaks Memorial Fund, which is designed to support an undergraduate student of exceptional potential and genuine financial need.

One scholarship, providing £4,000 per academic year, is available to award to an applicant holding an offer of a place at Durham, who has been allocated to Hatfield College, and who is commencing their studies in autumn 2024. Preference will be given to a student intending to study Maths or Physics.

Robin T White 1956 Scholarship

Launched in 2021, the Robin White 1956 Scholarship is set up to support an undergraduate student from a lower income household due to commence their studies in October 2024.

One scholarship, providing £4,000 per academic year, is available to award to an applicant holding an offer of a place at Durham, who has been allocated to Hatfield College, and who is commencing their studies in autumn 2024. Students can be studying any subject.

Not available in 2024:

Hatfield 175 Anniversary Scholarship

Launched in 2023, the Hatfield 175 Anniversary Scholarship is funded by generous alumni donations to support an undergraduate student of exceptional potential and financial need from the North East of England.  Applicants should have a home postcode in one of the following areas: CA, DH, DL, NE, SR or TS.

One scholarship, providing £4,000 per academic year, is available to award to an applicant holding an offer of a place at Durham, who has been allocated to Hatfield College, and who is commencing their studies in autumn 2023.  Students can be studying any subject.

Hatfield Bursaries

For those of you who meet the criteria for Hatfield Bursaries, these are automatically awarded when you start at the College to help with the costs of the wider student experience. We determine eligibility and process the bursaries based on information you submitto Student Finance and agree to being released to the University – you do not need to do anything further.
