Durham University Science 100 Exhibition
Durham University Science 100 outdoor exhibition explores the history of science education and research at Durham, featuring remarkable artefacts and stories from our museum collections.
This year marks a significant milestone in Durham University’s history, it is a century since the opening of the Dawson Building, Durham University’s first dedicated science-teaching building. As part of the DU Science 100 celebrations, this exhibition explores the development of science education and research at Durham through the museum collections.
From the Museum of Archaeology to the Oriental Museum, and from the Bioscience and Art Collections to Durham Castle, the exhibition highlights key objects, ground breaking research, and influential individuals who have shaped Durham’s scientific heritage.
Discover pioneering female archaeologists, the science of plant conservation, and the ongoing role Durham’s museums play in modern scientific advancements. Whether through the study of Egyptian mummies or conservation work at Durham Castle, each object tells a story of how science has evolved.
This outdoor exhibition is located near the Dawson Building and in front of the Bill Bryson Library. This exhibition is taking place as part of our DU Science 100 celebrations. To find out more about DU Science events, click here.
