Abstract

Numbers and statistics are tools for understanding the world, but their impact depends on how we interpret them. Why do trust some values and not others?  How do we assess when the output of AI and machine learning is “fair”? What is it that makes us sceptical and how do we develop the powers for questioning the numbers that shape our lives?  By understanding these dynamics, we can better communicate with diverse audiences and help all in society.

Places are limited and so any academic colleagues or students interested in attending in person should register. Registration form here.
