Modern Languages and Cultures Research Showcased in New Bigas Luna Blu-ray Collection
Research from the School of Modern Languages and Cultures (MLAC) will feature prominently in a new Blu-ray/DVD and book box set dedicated to acclaimed Spanish filmmaker Bigas Luna, to be released in France next month.
The collection, Bigas Luna – Pulsions / Obsessions / Transgressions (Artus Films), includes newly restored Blu-ray and DVD editions of three early works—Bilbao (1978), Caniche (1979), and Lola (1986)—alongside the book Bigas Luna: la période noire by Maxime Lachaud. Each disc contains a specially recorded video introduction by Professor Santiago Fouz Hernández (MLAC), while the book features a 20-page interview with him, focusing on material from his forthcoming volume The Films of Bigas Luna (Manchester University Press).
The project marks the first-ever Blu-ray release of Lola in any market and represents a major step in reassessing Luna’s lesser-known early films, newly subtitled in French for international audiences.
