Professor Bohlander discusses recent congressional hearings on Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena and whether full disclosure will ever happen.
On 9 January 2025, Professor Michael Bohlander, Chair in Global Law and SETI Policy, was interviewed on the morning show “Mornings with Simi” of Canadian Global News Radio 980 CKNW, regarding the recent congressional hearings on Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP) in July 2023 and November 2024.
The discussion focussed on the question whether disclosure will ever happen as long as officials who claim to have knowledge of relevant facts as well as access to evidence put their duty of confidentiality to the government before the right of the global public to know what evidence there is for contact with extraterrestrial civilisations. If there is indeed solid and reliable evidence of contact of any kind with an alien species, then this evidence is owed to all of humanity and not just the government of one country under the pretext of national security concerns.
