Durham Law School

This symposium offers analyses of such criticisms against investment arbitration and the potential benefits and drawbacks of the alternative court system. Leading scholars from the US, Europe, the UK, Canada, and Asia have come together to contribute to these ongoing discussions. The geographical and ethnic diversity of the panel ensures that the discussions are approached from different perspectives and legal traditions. Each scholar has been invited to the panel for their esteemed contributions to the field which will surely be reflected in the breadth of the dialogue.

The symposium will be structured into two panel discussions to facilitate a thorough exploration of the relevant topics. The two panels feature Andrea Bjorklund, Catherine Rogers, George Bermann, Julien Chaisse, Can Eken, Lei Chen, and Ronan Feehily. For each paper, the author(s) will be given 20 minutes to present. The presentations will be followed by 30 minutes of Q&A and feedback for each panel discussion.

Between the two panel discussions, there will be a 30-minute coffee break where the panellists and participants may interact and socialise.

The papers of the authors submitted will be published by a special issue of the American Review of International Arbitration (ARIA), edited by Can Eken, John Fellas, and Chuck Kotuby.
