Issues and Challenges in the journal publishing system: views from an EiC

Abstract

This presentation outlines some of the issues and challenges facing journals from across the social sciences, but in particular from my perspective after almost eight years as co-Editor in Chief of Annals of Tourism Research. The presentation covers issues relating to the general publishing landscape, the kinds of challenges faced by editors in an era of GAI and also some of the changing landscape of the Annals of Tourism Research topics and themes. The presentation outlines what we are looking for as editors and how we evaluate manuscripts. It will discuss the direction of travel for authors of submissions and introduce some new initiatives. This will be very much an open discussion whereby audience members will be able to ask any questions about the publishing process, the criteria for evaluation, the journey of a manuscript, handling times and tips on how to gain success in publishing in top journals such as Annals.
