Our newsletter includes details Durham alumna, Rosemary Coogan qualifying as an astronaut, as well as news of the appointment of Professor Charlotte Clarke as our first ever Associate Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Health). We have also featured our positive performance in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2024.
In this edition, you can read about UK Shadow Secretary of State for Education Bridget Phillipson’s visit to Durham during which she praised our commitment to widening access to a university education. Also, discover more about two of our students appearing in a national campaign led by universities UK. While, joining us in celebrating the posthumous induction of Durham legend Jack Greenwell into the National Football Museum Hall of Fame.
You can find out more about our Oriental Museum hosting a free community event to celebrate Buddha’s birthday on 18 May. We also feature some of our upcoming events at the Sir Thomas Allen Assembly Rooms Theatre.
This includes a Durham Student Theatre performance of Boudica from 6 to 8 June. Details are also available about a production based on Doctor Who, which runs from 13 to 15 June and a performance of Legally Blonde by the Durham Light Opera Group from 19 to 22 June.
Our academics have continued to produce impactful research.
Key highlights include Professor Simone Abram being named as the new Durham University Ørsted Chair of Green Energy Systems and Director of Durham Energy Institute (DEI) and two of our academics being elected as members of Academia Europaea.
We also have details about an exciting project in our Department of Psychology who have helped create a new healthy relationship guide for people with autism.
